Oh no! One of my favorite songs of all time may possibly be plagiarized work!
"Grammy nominees Coldplay have been sued by rock guitarist Joe Satriani, who claims the band's song Viva La Vida uses one of his riffs." (View the article here.)
I'm listening to the supposed original song, and while it sounds similar, it's.. not much the same. It's only a little bit that is the same. And Coldplay's song is so much more amazing. Blegh. I don't like this type of music. Listen to it here.
And Coldplay's Viva la Vida here.
What do you think? Do you care that they may have stolen a bit of music? (I think it likely they came up with it on their own without knowing someone else already did, and this guy is trying to cash in; considering they're so famous. But that's just me.)

If you ask me, it is co. ink. ee. dink.
Why would such awesome composers bother with plagerism?
Thanks for the links!
Ugh. I don't know why this has been made up to be such a big deal. Every song writer knows that their song music can't be copyrighted. Its only lyrics that can be copyrighted. It sounds to me like Joe Santwhatever should shut his chops and feel flattered that a band like Coldplay would actually want to mimic his sound and use him as an influence in their music. Some of their stuff sounds like U2, but thats because they admire U2. Joe Santawhatever is a big loser whiner.
Coldplay took a riff from his song, and made it cooler, better sounding, and more awesome. He can whine all he wants, but thats the truth.
